Without wings

I'm joining Brian Miller for Friday Poetically.  This week he shares the art work of his friend Bonnie of Original Art Studio and asks us to choose one of her pictures, allowing it to prompt a poem.

Living in shadow
dreaming of wings
an embrace
uncaptured

Solidly grounded
dreaming of flight
one strong wind
setting free

Gazing in wonder
dreaming a kiss
holding breath
enraptured

Searching for answers
dreaming of nights
love returned
let it be

Stop by One Stop Poetry to see what others have shared today.

Waiting to bloom

There are words
we grow tired
of speaking
hearing, thinking about
"transition"
life on the cusp
to become
whatever comes
next
"transformation"
from seed
to bud
to flower

screaming inside
to reach
extend
expand
but still trapped
not content
with green
or the waiting
for colour
to come forth

Finches free

Finches small
golden, purple,brown
gather and scatter
never lingering
long enough
for me to truly gaze upon
I imagine the lightness
of their landing
as if I could
hold out a hand
as a perch
a temporary home

for once I too
cherished
my ability
to fly
find the wind
whispering always
the song of goodbye
never knowing
I was captive
to my freedom

In the blood

Like a river
propels leaves
twigs, debris
downstream
as it flows
so is life
carried
in the blood
generation follows
generation
the curve of a smile
how the eyes see
a laugh
so familiar
it turns the heads
of those who hear

Life brings life
from ashes
rebuilds joy
renews hope
the blood beating
fresh rhythms
an invitation
to the dance.

Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD.  And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse. Malachi 4:5-6 NKJV

Home everywhere

Morning dew
mixed with leftovers
from yesterday’s rain
rested upon the grass
early light sparkled
on each blade
sun reflected
colours of gold, silver
shimmering blue

Caught within each drop
a mirror
of all of the world
visible
with binoculars
yet beyond
what the camera lens
could capture
rainbows
enclosed in perfection

His world magnified
in smallness
making His home
everywhere

Try the blur

How much time
is wasted
in the struggle
to focus
the sharp pointed
search
for clarity

weariness falls
a heavy weight
that smothers

how much energy
consumed
in the finding of details
when perhaps
the greater beauty
is most obvious
in the blur

Abundant rain

Rain falls like
tears
unceasing
vision blurred
by one more day of
too much
we look for a dry place
forgetting
how it feels
to thirst
so bloated are we
by excess

will the floods come
washing away
all we know of this life
forgetting yesterday
unable to conceive tomorrow
we live wet
in this moment

vision blurred
to even now

Friday Poetically - His design

Can we see
as He sees
strokes of His brush
precise, intimate
creating each of us
bit by bit
unique
in colours we
don't notice
always busy
taking in
the bigger
picture
losing the perfection
of the Master's details
painted
for His glory.

You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something  Psalm 139:15 The Message

Brian challenged us to write a poem after viewing the works of Chuck Close.  Read more about him HERE at Friday Poetically and see what others have penned.

Hear my prayer

The noise
of the world shouts
long and loud
wild dogs nip
at the heels
of my spirit
teeth ripping
into a heart
that longs to listen
to You alone
do not be far from me
oh Lord, hear my prayer

As I wake to a day
new with gifts
scattered
waiting to be
opened, utilized
for a Kingdom cause
let humility
be my cloak
reflecting
not absorbing
glory that is Yours alone
let me not be far from You
oh Lord, hear my prayer

Let us reason together
Your invitation calls
quiet in a world
where reason alone
has reigned
and faith
has been stripped
from the rules
of a game
that I don't
want to play
keep my mind
fixed on You
oh Lord, hear my prayer.

May I disappear
that You
would be all
for the honour is Yours
the glory is Yours
for ever and ever
Yours only, Amen.

He must increase, but I must decrease. [He must grow more prominent; I must grow less so.] John 3:30 Amplified

Oh, Yes! The blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving, the honor and power and strength, To our God forever and ever and ever! Oh, Yes!
Revelation 7:12 The Message

What do you see?

Flooded field near Dauphin Lake

Don't hold too tight
to what you think
you know.
Trust not your eyes
to show you
what is true.
Yes, a global
positioning  system
would lead you
here, programmed
to know
this is road
this is a meadow.
Still everything
you know, tells you
this is a lake
a swamp
a watery place.
Nothing is fixed
not time, or place
all waits
on the edge
of change.
Tomorrow
you might not
hear the calling
of the frogs
finding the field
dry and ripe
for planting.

Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.  Proverbs 3:5 Amplified

Shouts and whispers

Shouts
and whispers
sung in harmony
or discord.
Oratory eloquent
or lacking
a single word
no sound, breathless.
Anchored fast
yet still adrift
feather touches
of a wind
untamable.
From the day's
first light
until eyes shut
for sleep
from heartbeat
to heartbeat
all is prayer.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer  Psalm 19:14 NKJV

Stop by Jason's where this week's Warrior Poet Circle prompt was prayer.

Uncertain season

Nothing is certain
on the edge
of change
strong winds blow
in swirling frenzy
unable to choose
a fixed direction.

In such chaos
safety seems an illusion
yet there is stillness
in the centre
where the One
to Whom nothing
is uncertain
extends His hand.

I grab hold
breathless
with expectation
surrendered
to His lead.

Fearless.

Mom's china

Floral on ivory
crafted in Bohemia
edged in gold
plates, salad dishes
cups and saucers
serving platters
bowls large for soup
small for fruit
stashed unused for years
on shelves
in my mother's kitchen
cherished because
they belonged
to her mother
before her
these find a way
to my table
to honour both
where hearts gather
to find their joy
in the love and provision
of the Lord
here, where I feel
almost as fragile
as the fine china
moving my past
into my future.

First run off

Temperatures rise
clouds have scattered
sun streaming warm
on snow blanketed fields
begins the thaw.

What was held fast
releases
to the rhythm of Spring.

Will cold hearts melt
touched tenderly
by His love?

Tears flow
fast, free
preparing the spirit soil
to receive fresh seed
as something new
cries out
to be born.

Priceless

It cannot be wrapped
this gift
beyond price

best served fresh
with no invoice
or strings

stronger than steel
intricate and fragile
as spider lace

both vast
and intimate
enfolding and releasing

treasure most precious
whether given
or recieved

freedom, mercy, peace
braided
God breathed

Spirit sealed
holy offering
forgiving and forgiven

Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven. Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.  Luke 6:37-38 NLT
