pixels captured

pixels captured
hope spread
wide, flash
against the snow
power in delicacy
flight
suspended, beauty
almost too sacred
to hold, this
moment

back with the poets today

After the rains

The rains of the early morning
left a coat of damp on the deck wood
and the now thawed ground.
The branches, still bare, glistened.
The air had a strange quality, the light polarized,
drawing me out with my phone to try to capture it.
Light through shadows, colours splashed across the clouds
this is how I have been sensing life lately
and all I see is beauty
and I am learning, bit by bit
deeper in my spirit
without the darkness
we can never see the light

As the orange comes

The air grows crisp
brittle as the dying leaves
as the orange comes
mingling gold with scarlet flash
the geese take flight

wings were born for this
the spiral circles
call deep
my spirit vibrates
with the cry
to go

Still but scattering

Allowing the fuzziness to settle in deep today
blurring life's harder edges
praying that even in this quiet
my life scatters seeds

Sow for yourselves according to righteousness
(uprightness and right standing with God);
reap according to mercy and loving-kindness.
Break up your uncultivated ground,
for it is time to seek the Lord,
to inquire for and of Him, and to require His favor,
till He comes and teaches you righteousness
and rains His righteous gift of salvation upon you.

Path...

You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy,
at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore

Carrying prayer

Do not be discouraged at your faults;
bear with yourself in correcting them,
as you would with your neighbor.
Lay aside this ardor of mind,
which exhausts your body,
and leads you to commit errors.
Accustom yourself gradually
to carry prayer into all your daily occupations.
Speak, move, work, in peace,
as if you were in prayer,
as indeed you ought to be.

In the hidden parts

Geranium buds begin to open
looking much like roses in their unfolding...

Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts,
And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom

Waiting for the storm

It feels like the sky should burst
yet the sun returns again and again
this afternoon
waiting for a storm to arrive
static in the still heat
cracking as tension piles on tension
chaos just around the corner

I would perhaps
prefer the rain
the threats of large, damaging hail
to this holding on the edge

It feels like life should break wide open
yet normal returns again and again

I need not look for faces in the clouds
knowing He Is there. seen or unseen
all of this
in His mighty hands

Green Sunday

Those who trust in their riches will fall,
but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.

One learns to share

Images of Uganda haunt me,
call me back,
remind me of all we have,
all we call our own.
There, sharing was the order of the day.

Waiting...

It is another day of waiting.
Waiting for words.
Waiting for rains to answer the pleading cry of our land.
Waiting for the unfurling of leaves as life reaches up into this new season.

Much is yet unseen...
but so close
taste almost touches the tongue

Rust in the cracks

Rust fills in the cracks
the day seems too long and yet gone in an instant
my heart feels hard
but fragile
brittle enough to open far too easily
leaking passion

What do I do with a wheel fixed in place?

There is something calling to me
I can't sense the direction
the wind swirls and jumbles
but I know the Source
I have promised to listen
to follow
to obey

No I am not good at waiting
as my old wood splinters
wobbles and creaks
trying to find beauty there
as rust fills in the cracks

Sunny Sunday afternoon

Light surrounds
creation simple
yet every detail perfect
nuance
so many shades of green

Paper gives us title
to this land
but it is His
as are we
His humble stewards

I wander slowly
soaking in the sun
heart fresh
with gratitude

Yes!

Wisdom adorns her

I kept thinking, 'Experience will tell.
The longer you live, the wiser you become.'
But I see I was wrong—it's God's Spirit in a person,
the breath of the Almighty One,
that makes wise human insight possible

Late April Friday

Cats wander in and out of the barn, exploring,
pounce on anything that moves, grass, dried leaves in the wind

They find positions best suited for soaking in whatever sun appears

meander down the road, not in any particular hurry

there is always time to do nothing at all

They seem to enjoy slivers of Spring breaking through
and I too rejoice knowing seasons will change
cleaning away excess clutter, seeking order from chaos
clearing away so that new may come.

For I am about to do something new.
See, I have already begun!
Do you not see it?

New life

For as the soil makes the sprout come up
and a garden causes seeds to grow,
so the Sovereign LORD
will make righteousness and praise
spring up before all nations.

Taking time, with Sandy, to simply be
