Talking about the weather over here...

After the long winter I was enjoying the lengthening days and the feel of sun beating warm against newly exposed skin. In a moment of surrendering my own desire for a greater good, I began to pray for rain.

Soon the forecast changed; the probability of rain was high. You could smell it in the air, yet the ground grew drier. For days, the sky darkened and the sun remained shaded by steely gray clouds that seemed as hard as their metallic color. I had relinquished the sun in exchange for rain, yet the dry days and nights remained....

Fresh bread at Internet Cafe

My thoughts were as scattered as the leaves tossed on the ground. I decide it was best to give up control and allow them to wander. Perhaps God had a reason for the drifting.

While the swirling continued I chose the task of bread baking.

True Valentine

For Christmas I wrapped a present for Jesus.  For Valentine's Day I wrote Him a love letter.  As the true lover of my soul, He wrote back, words like:

Is it hard for you to understand My ways? I spoke to My disciples in parables. But let Me be clear now. My love is here and My love is true. Nothing will change My love for you.

Talking about Faith at Internet Cafe

With acres of space and no neighbors in close proximity, it was time to add a canine member to our family. Enter a three month old border collie crossed with husky or malamute and who knows what else.

Was it love at first sight? You bet! I knew that I was to name her Faith. Young and small as she was, the joke became "Oh, you of little Faith."

Knowing Your Master

The air has taken on the chill of late autumn and we know that it is time to begin making preparations for the winter that is soon to come. With leaves crackling underfoot, my husband Rick moves back and forth around the yard, putting away tools, covering the most fragile plants with straw and cultivating the gardens before the snow falls.

Each time I catch a glimpse of him I notice he has a shadow: our dog Faith....

Word Filled Wednesday - Children

Jesus said,
“Let the little children come to me,
and do not hinder them,
for the kingdom of heaven
belongs to such as these.”

Inside and out

In church on Sunday, when I met the missionaries that were passing through town, headed for a placement in Kenya, I knew I wanted to spend some time together, sharing stories of Africa and how we too feel God’s call. I invited them for a meal. “Please, come for dinner. We’d love to spend time with you two.” Happy to be asked, they agreed.

“What was I thinking?” I asked myself on the day they were expected as I looked upon the disarray. “You can’t entertain new friends in this mess.”.....

Word Filled Wednesday - Refreshing

Observe the commands of the LORD your God,
walking in obedience to him and revering him.
For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land
—a land with brooks, streams,
and deep springs gushing out into the valleys and hills

Word Filled Wednesday - Be brave

The new kittens we are raising as barn cats have started exploring the vastness of the world around them.  I can't help but think of God's Words to Joshua...

Have not I commanded you?
Be strong, vigorous, and very courageous.
Be not afraid, neither be dismayed,
for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Word Filled Wednesday - Harvest Time

Combining field of canola

Jesus said, "The food that keeps me going
is that I do the will of the One who sent me,
finishing the work he started.
As you look around right now,
wouldn't you say that in about four months
it will be time to harvest?
Well, I'm telling you to open your eyes
and take a good look at what's right in front of you.
These Samaritan fields are ripe. It's harvest time!

I didn't fly alone...

It was going to be a long day of traveling. I had two flights ahead of me. I had selected aisle seats for a bit of extra legroom and to avoid feeling trapped. I was surprised at the number of people traveling so early on a Sunday morning and it seemed that many of them were going to be on this same plane.

I always pray for safe travel and for divine encounters that God arranges for His purposes, so I usually don’t hesitate to speak to strangers. As I located seat 23C I noticed a tiny, older woman already seated in the center seat of the row. I said a quiet “Hi” and she looked up at me with a friendly smile....

Word Filled Wednesday - Too much is too much

It is not good to eat much honey;
so for men to seek glory, their own glory,
causes suffering and is not glory.

Word Filled Wednesday - Hold me

Because you are my helper,
I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings.
My whole being follows hard after You
and clings closely to You;
Your right hand upholds me.

Because you've always stood up for me,
I'm free to run and play.
I hold on to you for dear life,
and you hold me steady as a post.

Glorious skies

Suddenly, the glory of the God of Israel
appeared from the east.
The sound of his coming
was like the roar of rushing waters,
and the whole landscape shone with his glory.

We spent the weekend resting and connecting with friends in one of our nearby Provincial parks where the beauty that is His glory was evident in all that surrounded us.  How can one not praise His name?

Industrious ant

You lazy fool, look at an ant.
Watch it closely; let it teach you a thing or two.
Nobody has to tell it what to do.
All summer it stores up food;
at harvest it stockpiles provisions.
