One learns to share

Images of Uganda haunt me,
call me back,
remind me of all we have,
all we call our own.
There, sharing was the order of the day.

Wisdom adorns her

I kept thinking, 'Experience will tell.
The longer you live, the wiser you become.'
But I see I was wrong—it's God's Spirit in a person,
the breath of the Almighty One,
that makes wise human insight possible

Feet

How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of the messenger
bringing good news,
Breaking the news that all's well,
proclaiming good times, announcing salvation,
telling Zion, "Your God reigns!"

Will you remember me?

This young girl was standing near the side of the road as we traveled by bus back from one of the Watoto Childcare villages to our guest house in Kampala, Uganda.

Eyes that have seen white people come
and go, leaving her behind.
Eyes that have seen riches
flash and flee.
Eyes that cry out
in silence "will you remember me?"
And I am forever changed.
Weeping for their loss, hunger, need.
And my spirit shouts "Yes!"
And I can not forget.

I'm hearing the words to a Sarah McLachlan song:
I’m so tired but I can’t sleep
Standin’ on the edge of something much too deep
It’s funny how we feel so much but we cannot say a word
We are screaming inside, but we can’t be heard

But I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don’t let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

Submitted for the prompt remember.  Stop by 3 from here & there to see more.

Strength

The current prompt is strength. What I share here is an image of the power of love.  Two lives made one by Christ in marriage standing strong and united.

Plumb Line

Then he showed me another vision. I saw the Lord standing beside a wall that had been built using a plumb line. He was using a plumb line to see if it was still straight.  Amos 7:7 NLT

Allowing the light

The prompt this week at 3 From Here & There was based on a quote from Leonard Cohen:

"The cracks are how the light shines in, and it is only by remaining aware of imperfection that we remain open to redemption and reform."

Stop by to see what others have shared.

Street Life - just a normal day

I am the product of an urban/suburban upbringing. The dirt and rush, noise and crush of Chicago streets remains a part of me even as I have escaped into a much simpler, rural, country life.

Nothing in my past, however, prepared me for the street life that was part of a normal day in Kampala, Uganda. We didn't walk the streets, but perhaps would have made more progress if we were on foot as traffic varied from less than a crawl to a dead stand still for more than an hour.

Check out other perspectives on street life and leave a shot of your own.
