seeking first

a matter of trust
one day to the next
or moment by moment
as we begin our journey to Canada

in two weeks
we will be in flight
though I have felt mid-air
for months

what to drive
where to sleep
are not yet settled
leaving me tipsy
and grabbing hold
of the only One Who knows

seeking first, last
always

So above all, constantly chase after the realm of God’s kingdom
and the righteousness that proceeds from him.
Then all these less important things will be given to you abundantly.

inside out

we have shifted
to another new home
in Zambia, here
a view from our dining room
to the enclosed veranda
where we are bringing the inside out
or the outside in
which seems only fitting
for our life these days
driving on the wrong side of the road
summer steaming rain instead snow
dawn rising when back home friends ready for sleep
just a shadow of the Kingdom
where last will be first
giving to gain, dying to live
ever a bit of a bumpy ride
but eyes fixed on Him

Not that I have already obtained it [this goal of being Christlike] or have already been made perfect, but I actively press on [a]so that I may take hold of that [perfection] for which Christ Jesus took hold of me and made me His own. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider that I have made it my own yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the [heavenly] prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:12-14 Amplified

life upside down

work in the fields
continues here
in plus 30C
sizzling sunshine
praying to plant
before the rains

news from home
speaks snow
cold knocking bitter
as winter proclaims itself

life for us
is upside down
much the same
as Jesus preached
His Kingdom was
is, will be

then we are right in His midst

Consuming fire...

Do you see what we’ve got?
An unshakable kingdom!
And do you see how thankful we must be?
Not only thankful, but brimming with worship,
deeply reverent before God.
For God is not an indifferent bystander.
He’s actively cleaning house,
torching all that needs to burn,
and he won’t quit until it’s all cleansed.
God himself is Fire!

Let go to hold on

I keep trying to grasp hold of time
and the intro to the old soap opera repeats in my brain
"like sand through an hourglass, so are the days of our lives"

I keep trying to grasp hold
I keep trying to
grasp
and it slips
slips faster
my fingers stretched tight
strained, tension cramping every fibre

yet in the Kingdom of my citizenship
the place that seems so twisted,
upside down
when compared to this world
I have so much to learn

for here
one must let go
to hold on

trying to grasp hold
of anything
but Him
is like attempting
to trap
the wind

and He is always
here, right here
in my hand
in my heart
no stretch, no strain

palms open

breathe
