Joy - In the ruins

Concern and sorrow shadow the face of this pastor at the IDP (internally displaced person) Camp that he shepherds in Gulu, Northern Uganda when we visited in 2007. He was speaking of the many trials that are faced when so many live in such close quarters.

He was more than willing to share his burden and allowed us to wander about on our own, meeting the children, blessing and praying and letting God open our eyes and move upon our hearts.

I don't know if the woman sitting beside him here is his wife, a sister or a friend, but in the midst of the ruins, true joy shone from his smile and the shadows, however briefly, were held at bay.

When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul. Psalm 94:19 NIV

A beautiful story of how God keeps the joy--even during tough times, he gets to dole it out!

Lovely photos too.

The joy of the Lord is our strength. And it is evident in this pastor's face. Praise God!

wow, thank you for sharing the joy of a brother...and that verse!!!

i am always so greatly encouraged by brothers and sisters of the persecuted church, who despite tremendous suffering, glow with true joy... it is His joy that is their strength!
