Words about home

The word Peter chose for this One Word at a Time Carnival is Home.

I repost here two older pieces that I pray speak home into your heart.

This is from 22 September 2009:

While talking on the phone with Rick tonight I could her Faith barking and longed to have her at my side, giving me goodnight doggie kisses. I miss the scent of home, the sound of home, the feel of home in Rick's embrace.
Yet even as what is so familiar and beloved feels far away I can hear the Spirit whisper "There will ever be a longing, for even that place is not your home"

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ Philippians 3:20 NIV

and this from 13 November 2010:

Our barn kitten Pepper is experiencing his first winter, the cold and wind and feel of snow beneath his feet. He rests for awhile in the straw bale hallway to Faith's doghouse.
Faith doesn't use her house until temperatures drop near -20 or worse.

Some nights instead of returning to his place in the barn, Pepper has found warmth and comfort in this shelter that is not really his home.

So too do I seek shelter in a place that's not my home.

Let me take what comfort this world offers
as well as all its trials
knowing beyond knowing
that it's only for awhile.

Perhaps this is a more profound picture than I first believed, for what better place to dwell on this earth than in the house of faith?

Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
 John 14:1-3 NIV

One morning I was shocked to see our cat walk out of our fierce Dog's house. This dog would attach any thing that he visioned to be a critter - - so I was amazed to see them make friends. Animals find a home that makes them comfortable. We as humans often seek for comfort only to be moved again. Enjoying home life is often best when we have those we love around or close to us. I have never lived in a tent, but close to it and it was home to me.
