Kona finds a home

today is the last day these walls
will be merely a house
tomorrow our long awaited addition
will transform our living space
into a true home
as our now eight week old puppy
completes our family

we have food, treats, toys
blankets, collar and leash
a crate for her to snuggle in to
and spaces in our hearts
that she will soon fill to overflowing

meet Kona
and stay tuned for updates
as she grows into herself

not nomads

hours run into days
days into weeks
we move along, driven
by rhythms uncountable

surely it is time
to settle, pause
end these nomadic seasons
yet the Lord reminds me

your true home is in Me
but I do give your earthly body
a place to settle
a base of operations
a centre from which to reach out
your most important job is love
before all, in all and above all
love Me first
without Me you will not have
the ability or capacity
to love those I place before you
allow My love to work through you

Let us never forget

Love triumphs over all!

The Rwandan Genocide was 25 years ago.
Hard to believe time has passed so quickly

Today, April 7 has been set aside by the United Nations as the Day of Remembrance
of the Victims of the Rwandan Genocide.

Please take a few moments to read this blog post by Compassion.

love learned

anywhere we land
however temporary
companions appear
adopting us
reminders of how to love
and be loved
asking only for a sweet touch
giving so much more
than they will ever know

Until then, there are three things that remain:
faith, hope, and love—yet love surpasses them all.
So above all else, let love be the beautiful prize for which you run.

Get that

Yesterday morning, in a quiet time during corporate prayer, we were told to ask the Lord about His great love for us. His words came quickly...

I love you. I want you to "get that"
finally, fully understanding
because I said it, and I mean it and you can trust it
then - MOVE ON

I want you to know
so that you need no longer waste time pondering
Then I will be able to move
and use you as I will
Then you can move to My heartbeat
There is so much we need to do.

such fruit

backyard banana flower

all my eyes can see
is beyond extraordinary
how He creates with love
skill and humour
that which pleases and delights

my desire is to be such fruit
in His hands

psalm 45

psalm 45

so dark this day
we feel the weight
thousands of years
and each year new
the gift given
from despair
and abounding love

an impossible choice
was set before You
and You selected death
to give us life

so dark this day
where glory dwells

psalm 20

psalm 20

if earth is Your ottoman
how merciful your heart
that You do not crush us
under foot
we live in Your shadow
ever sheltered
ever safe
because of love
because of grace

psalm 18

psalm 18

Lord, hear Your people
thirsty tears streaming
recognising that enough
is not enough of You,
Who will pour out
more than we can hold
broken vessels, created
by divine design to drip
leaking light, truth
love

psalm 8

psalm 8

after all
before all
centre of all things
desperately I seek to know You
even as I ache to be known
fractured and broken I come
grateful for Your reception
hungry for a taste of Your
intensity
justice
kindness
love without restraint or
measure
nowhere else can we find such an
open door of
promise, yet our
questions never cease
reason blocks true sight
stops forward motion, leaves us
tired and frozen in place
until the touch of Holy Spirit
whispers and Your
x-ray vision pierces a heart, now
zealous for more, only more of You

psalm 7

psalm 7

when life seemed unredeemable
not merely broken, shattered
when the pieces could not fit back together
no glue or tape could mend
when You looked upon our depravation
You chose the only tools of restoration
when You boldly took the nails that saved us all
and blood flowed free
and grace flowed free
at Your cross I fall
claimed and surrendered
where love flows free eternally

psalm 6

psalm 6

Master of the rain, Keeper of the sun
Ruler of the border between day and night
Holy is Your name, all surpassing Love
often I am silenced, trembling at the sight
of Your creative breath, that once spoke life
and speaking still sustains us all

psalm 5

Psalm 5

where can I go to find peace
comfort, joy?
all that nourishes, sustains
is hidden in You

I cannot comprehend
explain, imagine
any power wider, deeper
stronger than Your love
You and You and You alone
three but One
perfect in unity

what is the colour of holiness?
what is the sound of truth?
what is the taste of glory?
You and You and You alone
together

if I were

if I were to ask you
what flows through your veins, ice or fire
if I were the gambling sort
I’d bet on both, and then inquire

if I were less certain
that your erratic heart sings, wild
unmarkable rhythms, spark this inner child

if I were bold
if I were free
I would cast off chains, set sail
invite you to my sea

if I were to venture
being thought a fool, unguarded
words could take wing
to finish what I’ve started

if I were, yes,
if I were, the sneaky smile, the wink
indeed,  I am
I think

29 January 2016

goodbye again hello again

another page turns
as the chapter draws to a close
night follows day
all things sorted by His hand
in beautiful perfection

tomorrow I bid farewell to Pretoria
to friends both new and old
fly back to my Zambian life
to rest in the arms of my husband
while our Father
continues to hold us both
in the sweet spot
the centre of His palm and heart

Brilliant creativity

the rains have not yet come
yet around every corner
His grand design astounds me
a dear friend called this
a watermeon flower
creativity on display
glory, brilliance
undeniably His work

Ascribe to the Lord, all you families of nations,
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
bring an offering and come before him.
Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.
Tremble before him, all the earth!
The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved.

flexible strength

In the quiet hours
the Lord shared His recipe
for flexibility---

My desire is that you would make much of Me
Am I not big enough to carry all that concerns you?
I carry you, all of you, large and small
I see - do not doubt my vision
As you surrender I can move you easily
according to My will

Think of the pasta you cooked yesterday
when it is raw it is hard, sharp, brittle
if you try in any way to change its shape
it snaps, shatters, breaks
but once submitted to the water
it softens in surrender

Yet in that same softness
it becomes unbreakable

Can you allow Me to do as I will?
beyond your tiny understanding
even when the waters are hot and painful?
Even when you fear you won't be able to breathe
in the abundance of heavy steam?

Breathe in Me
I Am always the safest place
even when I Am transforming you

Continue to bathe and soak in Me
lest you grow hard again

“And I will bring the third part through the fire,
Refine them as silver is refined, And test them as gold is tested.
They will call on My name, And I will listen and answer them;
I will say, ‘They are My people,’
And they will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’”

23 July 2015

eyes and ears open

We are in the middle of the first of several visioning trips
as we open our eyes, ears and hearts
to learn what God is asking of us

building new relationships
breaking bread
(or in this case, crocodile)
allowing the Holy Spirit to over-fill us
with the love only He can provide

God is not yet saying yes here
but He also is not saying no

more to come

18 March 2015

love upturned

I felt a strange pull to listen to an old Suzanne Vega song, perhaps that which she was most known for.  In the lyrics to Luka she sings:
They only hit until you cry
After that you don't ask why
You just don't argue anymore
I was stopped, breathless
understanding the words
in my own aching heart
in a way I never have before

why now?

I only pondered for a moment
before a deep knowing settled
for I can now add my name
to the long list
of those who feel the sting
of the type of emotional abuse,
that leaves you shattered
tear-soaked, fragile
and uncertain if you are
who you always thought you were

I made the temporary bed
in our place of refuge
this morning
without paying much attention
to the order of the throw pillows
not noticing I had allowed love
to be turned upside down

I have been blind
but my eyes are opening
what was taken, ripped away
is being restored
I was created, by His hand
the Master Designer
in His image
to love, as He loves

what the enemy has twisted
turned on edge
and used to harm me
is being restored
I have been claimed
reclaimed
and set free

But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you.
O Israel, the one who formed you says,
“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.
I have called you by name; you are mine.
When you go through deep waters,
 I will be with you.
When you go through rivers of difficulty,
you will not drown.
When you walk through the fire of oppression,
you will not be burned up;
the flames will not consume you.
Isaiah 43:1-2 NLT

12 March 2015

rest, yes

we are away
for a time
of refocusing
refinement
and rest

without a vehicle
in an unfamiliar city
bowing low
to be able receive care
from others

taking has not been easy

yesterday afternoon
I slipped, or tripped
and twisted my back

as pain spasms
the need for rest increases
and yet God Is
holding me, in control
pouring out His grace
saying yes
rest, yes
stay right here
at My feet
