I have grown fat
on a diet rich
with disappointments
learned to crave bitter
the salt of too many tears
cracked lips, tongue
till sweet almost slipped away
lost to memory
so I'm letting go
of those one notes
seeing the need for parfaits
layers of flavour
stripes of hope
cool to a fevered brow
spices to entice, delight
awaken a heart turned ice jagged
give me a long thin silver spoon
I'm digging in deep
and joining the poetry jam about stripes

Wonderful images in this with the parfait metaphor. Thank you for being part of Poetry Jam! Excellent.
ReplyDeleteletting go is def not easy to do...and though the other bitter we can get used to its taste and forget what real food tastes like....cool restoration in your words...
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your poem and your image here. I think many of us could use those 'stripes of hope.'

ReplyDeleteEven the name "parfait" is light and fun to say. Yes, dig in deep!
ReplyDeleteSo sweet to let go of those hurts and disappointments of the past. How our lips eagerly take the cool water he gives to us of his grace.
