Uncommon wind

Brittle twigs
and branches shatter
scatter
fill the ground
surround
old maples, dying
crying out
in the winds
far too strong
so long
abandoned.

The yard awaits
the promised blanket
of snow
the flow of white
not only covers
imperfection
but washes it away.

So too I
call out
for cleansing
a season of rest
then rebirth.

  6. I love the cadence of this - it suits the way the wind comes in and out of this valley in autumn . . . until you mention snow. I can merely remember and wistfully wish for the cleanliness to settle on this sad, sick Sacramento valley.

  7. Whoa. Your first three lines pulled me right in, like someone grabbing my hand to pull me onto the dance floor. And what could I do but come and dance?
